Capital Solution Limited in partnership with the Uganda Insurers Association recently launched Cohort 7 of the Social Business Accelerator Program at the Egret Skilling Hub in Kajjansi. This also doubled as day 1 of the physical training sessions.
The 6-months program seeks to provide participants with tools, strategies, and resources to scale their social enterprises for meaningful community transformation.
Kicking off the session, Angella Kemigisa, our Research Officer, spoke to trainees about the value of the partnership and the training. She highlighted that the partnership with Capital Solutions Limited is in line with Strategic Objective 4 of the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA), which is to increase UIA’s visibility and impact. She emphasised the training’s transformative potential and expressed pride in UIA’s collaboration with Capital Solutions to support social entrepreneurs committed to making positive social impacts. “This program is more than just a training, it is a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening enterprises that drive community-centered solutions.”
As the lead trainer, Dr. Joyce N. Tamale, Founder & CEO of Capital Solutions, took the participants through an in-depth exploration of the background, context, and significance of social entrepreneurship in Uganda. Drawing from her extensive experience, Dr. Tamale provided insights into the unique challenges and opportunities that social entrepreneurs encounter. She emphasized that a deep understanding of both the community’s needs and the social enterprise landscape are essential for creating long-term impact.
A significant portion of Dr. Tamale’s presentation focused on the concept of financial resilience and how it directly ties into the sustainability of social enterprises. She stressed the critical importance of insurance, describing it as a “safety net” that allows both businesses and individuals to thrive despite unforeseen challenges. “Building financial resilience isn’t just about having resources at hand; it’s about adopting a mindset that prioritizes security and foresight” Dr. Tamale explained.
She further noted that Insurance plays a crucial role in helping social entrepreneurs weather financial storms, ensuring that their businesses can continue operating even in times of crisis. She added that by securing the present, insurance lays the foundation for future stability, enabling entrepreneurs to focus on their mission without the constant fear of financial setbacks. Dr. Tamale’s message resonated strongly with the participants, many of whom expressed new-found appreciation for the protective role that insurance can play in their business journeys.
The Social Business Accelerator Program training session in Kajjansi proved to be a pivotal experience for the social entrepreneurs in attendance as they attained a clearer understanding of how financial resilience, particularly through insurance, can support the growth and impact of their social enterprises. As this cohort of social entrepreneurs continues to build solutions that uplift communities, the partnership between Capital Solutions and the Uganda Insurers Association marks a powerful step towards sustainable progress in Uganda’s social enterprise ecosystem.
