Mr. Peter Makhanu, Managing Director of Liberty General Insurance Uganda Limited, was born on 4th March 1963 to Kenya parents. He is married with 3 children (boys) between aged 18, 23 and 25. He is an MBA graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and an MBA graduate of Catholic University of Sacred Heart of Milan. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and a Fellow of Insurance Institute of Kenya. 

An experienced insurance professional with 35 years in Private Sector – Insurance and Reinsurance industry - 16 of which he has been a Managing Director / Chief Executive of PACIS Insurance Company Limited (11 years) and Liberty General Insurance Uganda Limited (current for 5 years now). He has acquired experience in Risk Management, Reinsurance, Strategy as well as Business Plans Formulation and Execution, Leading operational structures and processes, providing leadership on client relations management, Market Development, and as well as Mentoring employees. 

He has excellent leadership, people management skills and innovative Prior to joining PACIS Insurance Company Limited, served as Head of Underwriting and Business Development in UAP Provincial Insurance Company since September 1994. Previously he  worked for Kenya Reinsurance Corporation in the Research and Planning Department then in Designing and Treaty Underwriting.
