On 30th October 2025, the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA), led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jonan Kisakye, participated in a high-level networking event themed “Access to Markets and Diversification: Building Sustainable Enterprises Beyond the Oil & Gas Sector.”
Hosted at the Industry Enhancement Centre (IEC) offices in Kololo, the event also featured the official signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UIA, the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU), and the Industry Enhancement Centre (IEC).
Driving Collaboration in the Oil and Gas Sector
The MoU represents a strategic step towards strengthening engagement with stakeholders in Uganda’s oil and gas industry. Through this collaboration, the three institutions aim to promote insurance as a central pillar of business resilience and competitiveness, particularly for enterprises operating within and beyond the energy sector.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kisakye emphasized the critical role of insurance in enabling small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to manage risks, ensure business continuity, and confidently access new markets.
“Insurance plays a pivotal role in helping businesses navigate uncertainty and pursue growth with confidence,” he noted.

He further reaffirmed the industry’s commitment to developing innovative, sector-specific solutions that safeguard investments and foster sustainable enterprise growth. Mr. Kisakye also highlighted the importance of networking platforms that bring together key market enablers from the financial sector, regulatory bodies, and private sector stakeholders to enhance collaboration and innovation.
Stakeholder Engagement and Shared Vision
The event drew participation from over 50 SME representatives, alongside officials from the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), DFCU Bank, Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), and CNOOC, among others.
Mr. Paul Muhame, Chairman of IBAU, underscored the importance of equipping industry players with the knowledge and tools to manage risk effectively. He noted that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to building world-class capacity within Uganda’s insurance sector, ensuring brokers continue to serve as trusted risk advisers in the country’s expanding energy and emerging markets.
A Milestone for Uganda’s Insurance Industry
The signing of this MoU marks a key milestone in UIA’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of risk management through insurance, not as an afterthought, but as a foundational business practice.
Through such partnerships, UIA continues to champion initiatives that enhance industry resilience, innovation, and inclusion.
