Insurance Agents were recognized for their role in the insurance cycle at the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) Insurance Awards 2023 that took place at Hotel Africana, Kampala on Thursday 27th, April 2023. The awards were held under the theme ''Celebrating the Role of an Insurance Agent in the Insurance cycle''
Emmanuel Mwaka, the Chairman of the Life and Pensions Committee at UIA, said during the awards ceremony that the agent’s role is crucial as a distribution channel of the insurance business. Mwaka also highlighted that microinsurance is a unique solution to low-income earners.
Winners
Rashid Kizito who won in the Best New Agent category said that he won because he puts his effort into advising the clients on the best-fit products for them to leverage on in the sector.
Prudential agents exceled at the awards ceremony as Tonny Mugisha took home the award for Highest Gross Written Premiums (Life Insurance) and Kyomuhangi Alice - the Highest Persistency Award (Life Insurance).
UAP Old Mutual Group walked away with 9 awards from the ceremony. UAP won awards in the categories of; Best New Agent courtesy of Rashid Kizito. 3rd runner up Highest Premium written - Justine Namugosa, 1st runner up Highest premium written - Lydia Musimiire, 4th runner up highest number of policies written - Judith Kakuze, 2nd runner up Persistence award - Phillip Kasule, 1st runner up for Persistency award - Justin Namugosa, 4th runner up for Motor Third Party award (Northern Region) - Denis Pele, 2nd runner up for Motor Third Party award (Western Uganda) - Sarah Nayera and 2nd Runner up Agent of the year award - Lydia Musiimire.
Award categories
Agents were awarded in different categories under life insurance including; best new agent, persistency award, agent with the highest premium written, new business-policies written and agent of the year award.
The selection criteria for the agent of the year life insurance looked at the agent with the highest total average contribution was the Agent of the Year 2022. Other winners walked away with cash, accolades and certificates of appreciation.
Under Non-Life, agents were awarded under categories; best MTP Agent- Central, best MTP Agent- West, best MTP Agent- East, best MTP Agent- North and MTP industry Winner (Agent of the Year).
The selection criteria for the MTP industry Winner (Agent of the Year) was based on the highest gross written premiums from other Non-Life Insurance policies, excluding gross written premiums from Medical insurance.
The overall UIA Insurance Agent of the year was Namwanje Hasifah from Jubilee Life Assurance Company Uganda and the competition period was January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022 (with exception for the persistency category).
