The Insurance Appeals Tribunal led by the Chairperson: Ms. Rita Namakiika Nangono paid a visit to the Uganda Insurers Association. They were hosted by UIA’s Executive Committee led by the Chairman & MD of MUA Uganda – Mr. Latimer Mukasa at the association’s offices in Kololo. 

Present was the UIA CEO – Jonan Kisakye, other members of the Executive Committee including Mr. Paul Muwanga (UIA Vice Chairperson & CEO of Excel Insurance) and Ms. Ruth Namuli (Deputy Secretary of the UIA Executive Committee & CEO of Sanlam General Insurance).

Discussions of the visit revolved around the rulings of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal, their impact on the operations of insurance and how members can leverage on the same to amend their policy documents and serve their customers better.

UIA EC Members and the Secretariat agreed to engage further so that the Insurance Appeals Tribunal is involved in the various undertakings and initiatives of the Association especially the sensitization efforts for purposes of disseminating information that will add value to the activities of the UIA while informing the public in a bid to improve their trust in insurance. 

Other members of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal that attended included: Mr. Okotha Steven, Mrs. Solome Mayinja Luwaga and Mr.  Isaac N. Mpanga - the Tribunal’s Registrar.

The Insurance Appeals Tribunal was set up to address cases arising from disputes in the insurance sector to give the public and players quick legal redress rather than resorting to court.
