Recently, we held a Non-life Insurance Manager’s Forum at the UIA office gardens. The Managers’ Forum is a quarterly engagement aimed at bringing together industry Non-Life Insurance Managers to discuss crucial issues pertinent to them, to strategize & collaborate on solutions based on the current & emerging trends in the insurance industry.

UIA Technical Officer, Gilbert Emojong opened the discussions by highlighting UIA’s mandate. 

He tackled the sensitive issue of Underwriters not paying Loss Assessors’ professional fees or taking too long to pay them urging the two parties to work towards maintaining a good working relationship.  He noted that Underwriters & Claims Managers need the Loss Assessors which is also for the benefit of the entire insurance industry at large.

In the same vein, Gilbert called upon underwriters to agree on mechanism of sharing risk survey reports within themselves promptly to quicken up the underwriting process in case a client changes an insurer. 

The Uganda Association of Engineering Valuers and Loss Assessors (UAEVLA) Chairperson, Abubaker Ssemambo lauded UIA for arranging the Forum. He voiced his appreciation for the opportunity rendered to the Loss Assessors to directly interact with Insurance Managers on the lingering issues and work out resolutions that foster a good working relationship between them which in turn, propels the industry to greater horizons.

The Technical Head of Uganda Re, Andrew Kawuzi chaired the group discussions aimed at getting key action points. These were subsequently forwarded to the Technical Committee to come up with a joint working paper.

The Non-Life Managers’ Forum was well attended by over 20 Non-Life Managers, representatives of Loss Assessors led by their Chairperson & a team from the UIA Secretariat.
