The Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) is and was proud to have been a Silver Sponsor of the Women in Insurance (WIN) at 5 Convention that took place at the Sheraton Hotel-Kampala on 20th February, 2025. Under the theme “Navigating the Leadership Landscape.” The event served as a powerful reminder of the strides women are making in the insurance industry and the steps that need to be taken to foster leadership inclusivity in insurance.
The Guest of Honour, Rt. Hon. Rukia Nakadama Isanga, Third Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda recognized the invaluable role women are playing in transforming the Insurance sector. She commended the sector for its growing commitment to gender inclusivity and emphasized that the convention marked a crucial step towards long-term positive change. She also expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their role in strengthening the sector and encouraged insurance companies to work closely with the government to bridge the gap between Government and the Insurance sector in order to drive sustainable growth.

Our CEO, Jonan Kisakye, who moderated at the convention, did shed light on the increasing influence of women in the insurance industry. He highlighted that women now account for 30% of insurance customers, showcasing their growing trust in insurance solutions. He noted that their leadership is shaping a new era for the industry, inspiring future generations to rise, innovate, and make meaningful contributions.

The CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Alhaj Ibrahim Kaddunabbi Lubega, reinforced this momentum by pointing out that women represented 60% of the total insurance portfolio. He reiterated IRA’s commitment to maintaining at least 50% female representation in the industry, acknowledging that increased participation has significantly improved industry performance. He also encouraged more women to join WIN and called for a more strategic and impactful agenda to accelerate progress in the insurance sector.

Delivering the keynote address, ZEP-RE Managing Director, Hope Murera emphasized the importance of self-advocacy for women in insurance urging them to be vocal about their ambitions and needs. She noted that confidence and assertiveness are key to unlocking opportunities for advancement. She also called on insurance companies to create environments that support women in leadership & stressed that diversity at the top not only drives innovation but also enhances overall performance.

The WIN@5 Convention was a testament to the industry’s dedication to inclusivity in leadership. As a key player in the insurance sector, UIA reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women and strengthen the industry. Congratulations to the Women in Insurance.
