If there’s one thing we all love, it’s a good comeback story where doubt turns into trust, obstacles spark innovation, and industries evolve to serve people better. That’s exactly the energy fueling the 4th Annual Insurance Week which was officially launched at the Insurance Tower at Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) offices. Under the theme “Redefining Insurance: Trust, Innovation, and Inclusivity, this year’s Insurance Week is a dedicated effort to close the gap between the insurance industry and the public, making insurance more relatable, accessible, and most importantly, trustworthy. The Insurance Week will run from Monday, 10th March, to Thursday, 13th March 2025, at Millennium Park, formerly KCCA Grounds in Lugogo, opposite MTN-Omondi Stadium. It will then climax with the Insurance Innovation Awards on Friday, March 14th, 2025.

At the launch, IRA CEO, Alhaj Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, emphasized that insurance should not be a confusing puzzle for the public. Instead, it should be a trusted safety net that people understand and feel confident in. To bridge the trust gap, he highlighted the importance of insurers stepping out to engage with the public, making insurance more familiar and approachable. He reassured the public of IRA’s commitment to registering more industry players & ensuring a competitive market that offers better services and more choices for Ugandans. He challenged the insurance industry to build stronger relationships with the public, not just through marketing, but through real conversations, transparency, and accessibility.

To celebrate this commitment, the Insurance Innovation Awards will mark the climax of the Insurance Week’s events. Here, industry players who are pioneering new ways to serve their customers better will be recognized and rewarded.

The insurance industry is evolving, and innovation has become a necessity. That’s why our CEO, Jonan Kisakye applauded ongoing efforts to integrate FinTech into the insurance sector. By collaborating with FinTech entities, insurance companies are making insurance policies easier to access, purchase and manage. The days of long queues, endless paperwork, and complicated claims processes are being replaced with digital solutions that are fast, efficient, and user-friendly. Jonan also highlighted UIA’s ongoing Life Insurance campaign “Gonza Future” which is aimed to improve public understanding of life insurance and its benefits. Too often, life insurance is seen as an afterthought, something people only think about when it’s too late. This campaign is all about educating Ugandans on life insurance and why it is a promise to protect the futures of their loved ones.

Insurance should work for everyone, not just a privileged few. That’s why inclusivity is a key focus of this year’s Insurance Week. The industry is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which proves that it’s not just about premiums and claims but the people.

Jonan emphasized that insurers must actively promote inclusivity by creating policies that cater to different demographics, income levels, and business sectors. Whether it’s affordable health insurance, specialized agricultural policies for farmers, or easy-to-understand micro insurance products, the goal is to ensure that insurance works for every Ugandan.

The launch of the 4th Annual Insurance Week highlighted that trust, innovation, and inclusivity are the foundation for the future of the industry. The industry is stepping up, embracing change, and putting people first. So, are you ready to improve your understanding of insurance?
