Uganda Manufacturers Association and UIA formalize partnership

The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Chairman Mr. Deo Kayemba has reaffirmed UMA’s commitment to work jointly with the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA). Mr. Kayemba was speaking during a meeting to formally recognize UIA as a partner. The event took place at the UMA Head Offices in Lugogo.

The two association heads agreed to develop a working strategy that will help them leverage each other’s abilities to deliver on their different mandates.

“This proposed MoU to the UIA Chairman will inform the partnership between the two associations. The certificate is a form of appreciation for UIA’s continued support towards UMA projects like the Manufacturing Budget Dialogue that was recently held on 26th July, 2023 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.” Mr. Deo Kayemba noted.

UIA Chairman Latimer Mukasa commended UMA leadership for reaching a productive partnership that will focus on events and exhibitions to create awareness about the value of insurance to businesses.

Mr. Mukasa added that the partnership will operate under defined modalities of corporation & activities which will include among others: research studies to produce and disseminate analytical reports, implement capacity building initiatives, organize workshops & policy dialogues on different topics pertinent to their members.

“We are confident that the role that UIA Members are playing compliments UMA’s mandate & program for its members. This relationship is particularly relevant in this time of the changing business landscape in light of the emerging laws, technological advancements, tax regimes and non-tax barriers to trade.”

Mrs. Joseline Kateera  UMA Board Member noted that they are excited to formally welcome UIA as partners adding that they are ready to work together to make this partnership a fruitful one.

The two associations will be exploring the potential member collaborations in business where feasible & appropriate, while maximizing their core strengths and cooperative advantages to complement each other’s strategic work in 5 major areas: Business Environment, Lobbying, Advocacy, Regional Member Engagements and De-Risking Cross-border Trade.

UIA is the umbrella body that brings together all insurance companies in Uganda and currently enjoys a membership of 35 companies while UMA is a business membership organization representing 1,737 members in the manufacturing sector in Uganda.
