Recently, claims managers from the various medical insurance providers held a meeting on emerging clinical issues under the medical insurance provision. Mr. Dan Musiime, the Chairman of the Medical Committee chaired the meeting that took place at the UIA Offices. This committee was tasked with handling clinical matters, pricing and issues about service provision to hospitals.
Mr. Musiime informed the Claims Managers that a Medical Actuarial Study was conducted and a report of the findings was released and presented to the various stakeholders including the Regulator, Reinsurers and Brokers with the medical service providers also slated to receive the same.
He explained that the sub-committee will be expected to scrutinize pricings, clinical practices, tiering of hospitals into different categories and make recommendations to the main committee in a report which will form the agenda of the meeting with service providers in January.
Mr. Musiime therefore urged medical insurers to get their processes in order by paying providers on time and have their books reconciled. Dr. Partison Ndyamuhaki from Sanlam Life Insurance was nominated to head the sub-committee with Dr. Maurice Ego from Jubilee Health as deputy after members seconding their nominations.
This committee resolved to have their first meeting on the 10th January, 2024 to have the major issues discussed and presented to the main committee for review before meeting with medical service providers on 23rd January.
