Time : FROM 8AM -5PM
The Uganda Insurers Association in Partnership with Old Kampala police organized a training for Boda Boda, Drivers, Taxi drivers and other road users.
Training took place at old Kampala’s grounds where a good number of people attended. Several guests and stakeholders were invited to train and sensitize drivers and boda riders on different issues concerning the safety of the road and understanding the Motor Third party insurance compensation.HOVITA was represented by Mr. Kinene, road safety expert and driver instructor and Ingabire Grace, the programs officer that sensitized the audience on the Motor third party policy and rights of victims in general.

Objectives of the Presentation and Training:

1. To sensitize the drivers and boda riders on the unlikely causes of Road crashes.

2. To train the drivers and boda riders how to manage and control their time on the road to reduce accidents and crashes.
3. To sensitize drivers and boda riders on the motor third party policy and procedures for claiming compensation.
4. To advocate for safe driving.

During the training, Mr. Kinene talked about the causes of accidents and crashes and how they can be avoided.
He elaborated on some of the fake causes that the public usually put out as causes of road crashess e.g.
 Roads do not have humps, so it becomes hard for drivers to reduce speed.
 The roads are too good so drivers are usually in the moment so they forget to control the vehicles.
 The roads have pot holes, which also lead to road crashes.

He also went ahead and carried out an interactive session with the audience and requested them to give the causes of road crashes, and they were as follows.
 Tiredness
 Stress from family
 Stress from police checks.
Mr. Kinene went ahead and informed the drivers that, driving a vehicle does not necessarily mean that you know how it operates. Therefore drivers need training even when they know how to drive. As a driver, you don’t just see the road that you are driving from, you have to be able to analyze the environment on the road and situation that others don’t see. The ability to study conditions on the road and be able to react and handle them in the most careful and harmless way is what makes a driver.

From research, 60%-80% road accidents occur due to Human error 80%-100%, mechanical condition of the vehicle,
The training helped drivers analyze that accidents can be controlled by them, for example restraining, from distractions like phone calls, not driving vehicles in poor conditions, following road instructions, also mastering how to operate in certain road conditions.
He concluded saying that all accidents are 100% the drivers fault.
Training also sensitized drivers on defensive driving, drivers need to know tactics that bring accident and need to be aware where the problem is coming from and be able to avoid the problem.
Conclusion, drivers need training every now and then to be able to learn new road safety techniques and learn to take responsibility for their actions.
