It is estimated that Uganda needs at least 400,000 units of safe blood annually, but usually only collects 200,000 a year. This blood, according to specialists, its critical for surgeries that include those of expectant mothers and accident victims.
As a Corporate Citizen, the UIA is concerned about road usage and the impact that improper road usage has on the victims, their families and communities at large. In addition to other programs, the UIA continued in her partnership with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Services and Nakasero Blood Bank to run a blood donation drive in the greater Kampala Region.
Over the period, 215 units of safe blood were collected and 7o donors were deferred.
The UIA will continue in her work to ensure improved road usage from both a policy stand point and a road user stand point.
